Los Alamitos Area Description
Based on the US Census Bureau's official census, the City of Los Alamitos has a total population of 92,780.Out of the total population. 54,491 of the residents are from ages 21 to 64, and 9,984 of the total population are 65 years of age or older.
According to the result of the US Bureau of Census, there are 27,931 students in Los Alamitos. 24.4% are college or from graduate school; 20.4% are high school (grades 9-12); 43% are elementary school; 5.3% are in kindergarten, and 7% are in nursery school and preschool. There are about 15.9% of the population 25 years and above that are high school graduates and 28.3% of the population 25 years and above has Bachelor's degree.
The total number of Los Alamitos labor force is 48,629. And out of that number, 46,858 are employed, and 1,721 are unemployed. There are around 21,947 females 16 years and over that belong to the labor force, and about 21,137 are employed.
Still based on the results of the US Bureau of Census, it show that 37,039 of the labor force are privately hired. And around 5,589 are government workers, and 4,051 are self employed workers, or has their own business. About 46.7% of the employed population is into management, professional, and related occupations.31.3% is also into sales and office occupations. 10.3% are into service occupation, 6.5% are into production, transportation, and material moving occupations. Then another 5.1% are into construction, extraction, and maintenance occupations. None is into farming, fishing, and forestry occupations.
Industry wise, US Bureau of Census show that most of the workers are into educational, health, and social services, and manufacturing.
Of the total 46,858 working population in Los Alamitos, 25,721 are male and around 21,137 are female. And as per the record, majority of the male workers are into management, professional, and related occupations. Likewise with the female. And the median earnings for male full-time, year- round workers are $61,849.And for the female the median earnings for full-time, year-round workers is $38,743.
According to the US Bureau of Census, there are 32,379 households in Los Alamitos. Of the total households 6.1% has an income of $200,000 or more; 7.7% has an income of $150,000 to $199,999;21.1% has an income of $100,000 to $149,999;17.9% has an income of $75,000 to $99,999; 20.3% has an income of $50,000 to $74,999; 10.6% has an income of $35,000 to $49,999;7. 2$ has an income of $25,000 to $34,999; 4.4% has an income of $15,000 to $24,999;2.3% has an income of $10,000 to $14,999, and still others has an income of 2.5% or less than $10,000. And the median income for the households in Los Alamitos is $78,248. And the mean earnings are $92,324 for the households in Los Alamitos for 1999.
And still based on the US Bureau of Census, there are 25,348 families in Los Alamitos. And the median family income is $86,902.Only 1.4% of the families has an earnings of less than $10,000;1.3% has an earnings of $10,000 to $14,999;2.9% has an earnings of $15,000 to $24,999;5.8% has an earnings of $25,000 to $34,999;9.5% has an earnings of $35,000 to $49,999;19.5% has an income of $50,000 to $74,999;19.5% has an income of $75,000 to $99,999;24.5% has an income of $100,000 to $149,999;8.8% has an income of $150,000 to $199,999 and only 6.8% has an income of $200,000 or more.
There are about 589 families in Los Alamitos that fall below the poverty level. About 445 families has children less than 18 years of age. While there are 126 families that fall below the poverty level with children under 5 years old.
According to the US Bureau of Census 2000,there are 32,896 housing units in Los Alamitos.24,180 are 1-unit, detached, 4,010 are 1-unit, attached;171 2 units; 943 3 or 4 units, while there are around 79 mobile homes. Most of the housing units are built around 1970 to 1979, 420 units are built in 1999 to march 2000, beyond that no more housing structures are built.
Out of the 32,896 housing units, 32,329 are occupied. Of the occupied units, 24,338 are specified owner-occupied units, while 5,997 are specified renter-occupied units. And around 1,994 units are vacant. Of the vacant units, 181 units are for sale, while 170 units are for rent.
Out of the specified owner- occupied units, 20,879 housing units are mortgage. And 33.1% or 6,917 mortgage housing has a monthly cost of $1,500 to $1,999.While the median monthly owner cost of the mortgage housing units is $1,825.
Of the 5,997 renter occupied units,9.4% has a gross rent of $800 to $899;38.2% has a gross rent of $900 to $999, and only 8.8% has a gross rent of $2,000 or more. While the median gross rent is $1,019.
