Westminster Area Description

The 2000 United States Census Bureau official results reveal that there are 88,207 total number of residents in Westminster City, Orange County, California. Of which, there are 20,411 families and 26,406 households. The median age of the population is 34 years old. A percentage count of 32.6 is comprised of residents aged 25-44 years; 25.9% of residents aged 18 years and below; 21.5% of residents aged 45-64; 11.2% of elderly population aged 65 and above; and 8.8% of residents aged 18-24 years.

According still to the United States Census Bureau statistics, there are a total of 26,350 Westminster City's residents that are 3 years old and above. Of which, 1,203 (4.6%) school-goers are preschoolers; 1,398 (5.3%) are in kindergarten; 5,509 (20.9%) are high school students; and 7,831 (29.7%) enrollees are either pursuing college or graduate school.

Of the United States Census Bureau's total count of 67,455 residents that are aged 16 years old and older, there are 40,364 Westminster City's locals that belong to the labor force. Out of the total number of individuals that are in the labor force, 56.5% or 38,093 are employed and 3.3% or 2,208 are unemployed. Females aged 16 years old and order comprise 34,111 of the total number of employed civilians. Sixty-three Westminster are in the Armed forces.

The same census report yields from the US Census Bureau, 29.7% or 11,300 employees are with management, professional and other related occupations; 14% or 5,348 engage in service occupations; 27.7% or 10,588 are employed in sales and offices; 0.2% or 58 individuals are engaging in farming, fishing and forestry occupations; 3,291 or 8.6% are construction, extraction and maintenance workers; and 7,538 workers or 19.8% are in production, transportation and material moving industries.

The US Census Bureau further show that the top industries with the largest labor force are Manufacturing with 22.8%; Educational, Health and Social Services with 14.2%; Retail Trade with 12.6%; and Administrative and waste Management Services with 10.3%.

Westminster city has a per capita income $18,218 according to the United States Census Bureau survey results in the year 2000. Male workers that work full time all year round has an estimated gross income of 37, 157 while female full time workers has an estimated annual income of 28,392.

In 1999, there are 26,358 listed households in Westminster City, Orange County. The median income for these household is $49,450. The lowest income is below $10,000, which covers 1,669 households or 6.3% of the total number of households. The highest income, on the other hand, is $200,000 or more, which covers 453 households or 1.7% of the total household count.

Also, the US Census Bureau has listed 20,444 families in Westminster city in the year 2000. Seventy-two of these families earn less than $10,000; 1,130 families earn from $10,000-$14,999; 2,241 families have earnings of $15,000 to $24,999; 2,196 families earn $25,000 to $34,000; 3,131 families earn $35,000 to $49,999; 4,418 families earn $50-$74,999; 3,053 families earn $75,000 to $99,000; and 3000 or more families earn $100,000 to $200,000 or higher. The median family income is $52,677.

In Westminster City, there are 11,757 individuals that are below poverty level. This stands for 2,192 married-couple families and 485 families with female householders with absentee husbands.

As per the U.S. Census 2000 results, Commerce City residents lived in 3,380 housing units, of which 1,946 were single detached units, 551 were single attached units, 879 were multiple housing units, and 4 were mobile homes. Most of the housing structures were built between 1940 and 1959. Only 182 housing units were built between 1990 and 1998. No housing structures were built in 1999 to March 2000.

There are a total of 26,934 housing units in Westminster in the year 1999, as reflected in the 2000 Official Report of the US Census Bureau. This is further subdivided to 14,737 detached single units, 2,444 attached single units, 386 double housing units, more than 6000 multiple housing units, 3,040 mobile homes and 27 housing units that are in boats and/or vans.

Out of the total number of housing units per the report presented by the US Census Bureau, there are 26,373 housing units, Of which, 13,323 housing units are specified to be occupied by the owners themselves while another 10,469 housing units that are occupied by renters.

The aforementioned 26,373 owner-occupied housing units have a median value $227,300 while the 10,469 rented housing units have a median rent of $842. A total of 10,829 owner-occupied housing units or 81.3% are mortgaged while 2,494 housing units or 18.7% are not. The mortgaged housing units have a median cost of $1,502, while the non-mortgaged ones have a median cost of $263.

Basing still from the US Census Bureau results, there are only 71 vacant housing units that are for sale and the median asking and selling price is listed at $204,800. While there are 289 unoccupied housing units that are for rent. These for-rent housing units have a median rent price of $810.
